Why is ChildSafe ID your Safest Ever Child ID Product?
We have provided a number of child safety products for many years so we've had lots of conversations with parents of young children about child safety; we're well positioned to broadcast the pros and cons of each method of carrying parental contact or child medical information. Here's why our ChildSafe ID garments are our safest ever Child ID product: -
- Young children are unlikely to remove their ChildSafe ID garment
Young children often remove Child ID wristbands and parents may not notice until they find it later lying in the foot-well in the back of the car - when it may be too late. If a young child did happen to remove their Child ID garment mum or dad would certainly notice! - ChildSafe ID garments are less conspicuous than a Child Safety wristband
A link to parental contact or child medical information is securely embedded behind the logo on ChildSafe ID garments which is less conspicuous that a wristband. Young children can easily be taught to point the logo out to a helper or first-attender. See our Essential guide to child ID safety. - When a ChildSafe ID garment is read by Smartphone, geolocational information is gathered
Whenever a helper or first attender reads the embedded tag of a ChildSafe ID garment the system collects geolocational information which may provide helpful information relating to the whereabouts of the child. See section on geolocation information for more details.
ChildSafe ID Garments - How Safe is Safe?
Let's answer some frequently asked questions: -
Q. CAN GARMENTS BE READ FROM A DISTANCE?
A. Absolutely not! Any information stored such as parent contact or child medical information may only be accessed with a Smartphone by holding a phone right next to the logo on the garment. The technology used is called NFC which stands for Near Field Communication. It would be impossible for anyone to collect the details from any distance greater than a centimetre or two from the logo.
Q. CAN ANYONE DOWNLOAD THE APP TO READ THE LOGO?
A. No app is needed. The technology used is NFC which is build into almost all Smartphones these days. Simply switch NFC on in your phones settings. The only exception is iPhone 6 which has NFC but it has been 'locked' by Apple so iPhone users will need to use the visible code - See iPhone section.
Q. IS IT SAFE TO LET ME CHILD CARRY THIS INFORMATION?
A. Yes. ChildSafe ID garments actually make it safer to carry the same kind of information that would be carried by a child wearing a Child ID Wristband. We recommend using ChildSafe ID garments to store parent's (or close relatives) contact information or if your child has a medical condition you may consider storing essential information that would alert the emergency services or a first-attender of the medical condition and perhaps medications alongside parent contact details.

GeoLocation Information
Can ChildSafe ID Garments Help Find a Lost Child?
When the tag on a ChildSafe ID garment is read, information is provided by using the IP address of the reading device which may help to determine: -
Geolocational Information Accuracy
Information about the nation
On a country level, IP addresses are almost always attributed to a specific nation. According to StateofDigital.com: 'A Belgian IP address nearly always indicates a Belgian user. On a country level, the accuracy percentage of IP address geolocation does indeed tend to be upwards of 90%'.
This is because the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) manages the IP address space allocations globally and delegates five regional Internet registries (RIRs) to allocate IP address blocks to local Internet registries (Internet service providers) and other entities.
So you can almost always rely on the country of an IP address being a reliable indicator of where a tag was read.
Information about the city
The geolocational information relating to the city where a ChildSafe ID garment tag is read is subject to a decreased accuracy. This is because whenever a user goes online, their device's IP address is allocated by their internet service provider (ISP) from one of the ISPs hubs located in various towns and cities in the country. Sometimes this will be within a few miles of the user and will therefore be precise. At other times it may be less accurate - especially if the ISP dynamically allocates an IP address from a hub that is hundreds of miles away from the user's physical location. You-ID.me has no control over the allocation of IP addresses.
The above would not apply to users using a proxy server.
