What is Walkalone?
Walkalone is a personal safety service provided by You ID Me.
Walkalone puts a simple yet powerful emergency alert button in the centre of your phone screen to use if ever you're in danger, scared or need urgent help. The button triggers alerts to your registered emergency contacts and shows them your location using Google Maps. Walkalone can be used by anyone that carries a phone. It's designed in case they:

Who is Walkalone for?
Walkalone can be used by anyone that carries a mobile phone; women and girls, men and boys, adults, teenagers and children. Whilst the original idea was for the creation of a tool to help keep lone females safe - triggered by the horrific case of Sarah Everard in March 2021 - interest and use of Walkalone is divided across gender and all ages, highlighting the need for a personal safety alert tool
How does Walkalone work?
Walkalone puts a large emergency buton in the centre of your phone screen in case you need urgent help.
Arm the tool to have the button active and ready. When tapped, Walkalone sends instant SMS's to your registered contacts, dynamically addressing them and alerting them that the you're in danger, feel scared or that you don't feel safe. The alert contains a map (or a map link) which shows your current location. |
How accurate is Walkalone?Walkone uses the Google Maps API to provide a locational snapshot of where the user's mobile device is at the moment they trigger alerts to their emergency contact/s.
Extensive testing of the Walkalone tool has proved it to be highly accurate in revealing the immediate vicinity of the user's mobile device the moment the SMS alert is triggered. |
How do I get Walkalone on my phone?
Create a free emergency ID profile with You ID Me and then upgrade to the Platinum Plan. which will unlock the Walkalone tool in the tools section of your profile dashboard - see Setting Up Walkalone below.
Why do I need Walkalone?
There are times when it just makes good to have Walkalone on your phone.
For example those times when there's simply no option but to walk home alone. Or for when youngsters that have met up, part their ways and journey home alone. For when you become unexpectedly separated from friends or family... you just never know - better to have the Walkalone tool than to wish you'd had it. The truth is you can never know when this tool may be a life-saver. |
Where does Walkalone work?
Testing has been carried out across the UK. Due to SMS restrictions in other parts of the world it would be adviseable to check and test the service first if your or your emergency contacts' mobile phones have been registered in any country outside of the UK. It's highly recommended to test the tool as soon as it is made live on your profile to satisfy yourself that the service works with your mobile network and the mobile network of your emergency contacts.
When will Walkalone be available?
Walkalone is now available as a bolt-on service to the You ID Me Platinum Plan.
How much does it cost?
Walkalone is included with non-discounted Platinum Plan memberships paid by monthly or annual direct debit.
Until December 2022, existing Platinum Plan members can add Walkalone to their plan at the discounted price of £23.88/year.

It's also vital to check with your emergency contact/s that the alert/s was/were received shortly after being triggered and that the map location matches your personal location at the time the alert was sent.
