Q. Will this new feature be added to my profile?
A. Maybe. The new feature will be added to all profiles on the Platinum with Alerts plan. Check our plan comparison page for details.
Q. Will I have to pay for this feature?
A. This feature will be included as standard if your profile is on the "You ID Me" Platinum with Alerts plan. It will not be included on other plans.
Q. Will I be able to turn the feature off?
A. Yes. Users will be given the functionality to toggle the feature on and off.
Q. How can I preview this feature?
A. Once launched, users can listen to how emergency information in the medical conditions field will be read out by logging into their dashboard and selecting Edit Profile.
Q. When will this feature be launched?
A. It's currently in development and is due for launch soon. Keep an eye on any of our channels or your inbox for a launch notification.
Q. Can I change the voice used to read out my emergency medical information?
A. There are no plans to offer alternate voice sounds.
Q. What information will the new feature read out?
A. Any information present in the medical conditions field will be read aloud.
Q. How can I check my information will read correctly?
A. Users are advised to log in to their profile and preview how their information is read.
Q. How effective is the tool at reading out information?
A. The feature uses Googles powerful text-to-speech AI technology. Despite being pioneering, in tests some information may not be read out in a way that can be easily understood by the human ear; complex formatting, unconventional abbreviations or date formats, mis-spellings and complex or rare medical conditions are examples of these. We'd recommend users review the spoken version of their information and make any necessary alterations or use the toggle button to switch the speak-it function off. However, remember that the text version of your information will always remain visible.
Q. Will I need to edit my information at all?
A. Possibly. Having run millions of characters through AI based text to speech tool it's clear that most text is spoken aloud in a very coherent way. However anomalies exist where the AI voice may read out the letters in a word if it doesn't recognise it - see above question on effectiveness for examples.
We encourage users to read the guidance material in the "You ID Me" Help Centre for drafting and formatting the text in your 'medical conditions' field to keep it as simple as possible. Limit the use of uppercase characters for whole words and minimising the use of medication names and dosages where possible.
