About NFCQ What is NFC?
Near Field Communication (NFC) is a wireless communication technology a bit like WiFi or Bluetooth. It allows the transfer of data between two devices, such as a mobile phone and NFC tag. Typically, NFC is used to pass data from one device to the other. So you might use NFC to pass data from an NFC enabled mobile phone to another NFC enabled mobile phone, from a mobile phone to a payment terminal or from an NFC tag to a mobile phone. Q What is RFID? Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID) is the use of radio waves to read and capture information stored on a tag attached to an object. A tag can be read from up to several feet away and does not need to be within direct line-of-sight of the reader to be tracked. Q How is You-ID.Me different from other medical wristbands? Our wristbands are more effective because they hold your important information in a number of ways eg. in ways that can be read by the human eye (writing) and electronic which can hold far more information than you could write on the small ID card. Using multiple methods is more efficient because it provides a back up in an emergency situation. Q Do You-ID.Me products work abroad? Yes. They work wherever a device can connect to the internet. Q Can I buy a You-ID.Me product from any other company? No. Ahead Solutions is the only company currently supplying this product. Q Can I buy other You-ID.Me devices? Yes. Q How long will a the wristband and tags last? Wristbands are high quality and should give years of dutiful service. Of course that depends how often and how ruggedly it is used. The scanning ability of the tags however will last technically years and years. You can scan the tag almost infinitely and it will work. Q Where can I find my Amazon order number? Click to enlarge the image below to see how to find your Amazon order number About You-ID.meQ Can any phone be used to obtain the information held on the wristband?
No. It has to be a smartphone with i) a compatible NFC chip ii) an internet connection. Typically this may be a Smartphone manufactured by large organisations such as Blackberry, google, HTC, LG, Samsung, Sony and using the Android, Windows or BlackBerry operating system. Q How can I be sure someone will have a smartphone that will work? Most people have a Smartphone these days - in fact most phones purchased are smartphones. Many of these phones are now provided with NFC as standard, just like wireless and Bluetooth. Therefore whilst you cannot be 100% certain it will be almost as likely as the number of people that carry a mobile phone! Q Will iPhone work with You-iD.me products? The short answer: Yes, the system works with any device: Smartphone, tablet or PC. Our ID bands include an ID card that slides into a discreet sleeve on the inside of the band. On the reverse of the ID card is a label printed with a unique ID code and instructions for a first attender / paramedic etc. Behind the label is an NFC chip / tag. The instruction printed on the label advises that the ID code can be entered at www.you-id.me OR that the label may be read with an NFC phone to retrieve the wearers emergency details. iPhone users should use the ID code (nfc on the iPhone is locked by Apple). All other phones may use both methods to retrieve the same info. Things to bear in mind: - i) Entering the ID at the You-ID.me website remains the most common method of access. ii) Is is likely not to be your own phone used in the event of an emergency - Why has Apple locked the NFC on my phone? Last year Apple iPhone 6 joined the majority of smartphones by containing an NFC controller. However, at the moment, this new iPhone is “locked down” only to the Apple Pay mobile payment system. This means that iPhone 6 users are not yet able to take advantage of the massive potential of NFC through apps, tags and communication. Despite this, in the 72 hours following its launch, a million credit cards had been registered with Apple Pay - an indication of the popularity from Apple's user base. We believe that Apple will open up the “locked down” access and that iPhone will join Android, Blackberry and Windows in scanning tags. When however is anyone’s guess. As a percentage there are far more Android, Blackberry and Windows users than iPhone users which is reassuring when one considers the likelihood of a Smartphone carrier successfully scanning the wristband. Q Can I pass through airport security wearing my You-ID.me wristband? It may be wise to point out to security that you have an electronic tag on you just so that they are aware. It is completely safe to board an aircraft and fly. Tags do not affect aircraft instruments. Q Will the my wristband affect other medical equipment such as a hearing aid? No. There is no power in the tag and they do not use batteries. Q Can I buy a You-ID.me wristband for somebody else? Yes of course. Remember to include their information on the myinfo page. Q What do I do if I don't have an RFID or NFC enabled device? The written identity card works by eyesight as you would expect. To test the NFC / phone properties however you will need to use an NFC enabled device. Most new smartphones have this. Just switch it on (as you would your data or wireless) and tap the phone to see your information on screen. Q What devices can scan the wristband?
