Cystic Fibrosis is a genetically inherited condition affecting mainly the lungs and digestive  system. One in 25 people have a single  'faulty' gene. If their partner has  a faulty gene too, then there is a one in four chance of a pregnancy resulting in a baby with CF.

People with CF take a great deal of medication. So it's vitally important for any carer of someone with Cystic Fibrosis to know that  the person they're looking after is a CF patient. 

Meals need to be supplemented with pancreatic enzymes  and regimented  doses of antibiotics are an essential  part of the daily medication regime.

In an emergency it would be really important for a first responder or paramedic to be aware that the person that they are treating has cystic fibrosis.  And there are many reasons for this. 

Knowing what medications the patient is on would be very helpful.  Indeed some CF patients are 'fitted' with titanium ports beneath their skin  so that IV medications and  blood sampling is made easier and less painful.

Knowing  this and knowing what sized syringe to use would be vitally important for a paramedic.

If someone with cystic fibrosis  has an emergency and is 'out cold'; unable to communicate with a helper or paramedic, there would be no way for the first responder to know that the person  (with the emergency) has cystic fibrosis.

This is a big problem because  treatment for the cystic fibrosis sufferer could be    SO MUCH BETTER  if paramedics / ambulance staff had the awareness of i) the patient's medical condition/s  ii) more  specifically the medications that they are taking regularly  and iii) any medical equipment the patient has fitted.
