With dozens of customer orders packed and ready to go to Royal Mail at 4PM the last thing you want to hear from the ASDA delivery driver whose van is straddled across the entrance to your business is "Sorry mate, it's broke down. It's an automatic and there's no way to roll forward."
No prizes for guessing that's what we were told. There wasn't a chance of making it to Royal Mail on foot either. This time of year daily deliveries of emergency identity products to our customers are absolutely essential; people are going away on summer holidays and do tend to think about emergency ID as a last minute thing. Fo years now meeting the demand has been sometimes challenging as people place an order and then email us saying I need this for tomorrow. Last night for example we had an order at 20:00 and an email saying we need this for tomorrow! We could do with one of those pods from the film The Fly, but without the fly in it of course - we don't want a giant half fly half medical ID wristband do we! Fortunately the breakdown truck came to the driver's rescue and we made it out on time. The look on the face of the postmaster as I walked in at 17:15 was a picture. He said... "Oh my...! Give 'em here Lee." |
